Puma now creates its football shirts with textile waste

As part of its circular model plan, Puma will begin to completely create the replicas of the football shirts that go on sale from 2024.

These new shirts will also be part of the clubs and federations that they wear.

Its real objective is that 100% of the polyester used in its manufacture is from textile waste. The production of the t-shirts will be from revalued textile waste from textile to textile.

The initiative for circularity will be called Re:Fibre. In their process, they collect and classify textile waste and leftovers, which will then be recycled and reused, becoming raw material to create new garments, this is known as textile-to-textile processing.

This initiative began in 2022, with a pilot where recycled fibers from textile waste were used with training shirts from football clubs.

Some clubs that are part of the initiative are Valencia CF, Girona CF, Deportivo Alavés or Real Sporting de Gijón, in Spain, AC Milan from Italy and Borussia Dortmund from Germany.

Also at this stage, replicas of the kits of the Swiss and Moroccan federations for the Women’s Soccer World Cup were used.

Now the federations for the Euro Cup and the Copa América will be included, all in order to replace the use of exclusively recycled polyester obtained from recycling PET plastic bottles.
