Why “Priscilla” by Sofía Coppola stands out in fashion
Whenever we talk about a film by director Coppola, the fashion dazzles. And having a pop icon like Priscilla Presley, she was not going to be the exception.
Priscilla’s story is anything but boring. Barely at the age of 14, she met the already famous 24-year-old Elvis in Germany when he was on military service in 1959. Since then, their idyllic love story was covered and watched by the world for more than a decade, before they divorced. in 1973.
Now, under Coppola’s gaze you can see how costume designer Stacey Battat has done a magnificent job. This biographical film highlights the couple’s private life, starring Jacob Elordi as Elvis and Cailee Spaeny.
Stacey Battat has worked with Coppola on “The Bling Ring” (2013) and “The Beguiled” (2017)
It stands out that the filming was done in 30 days and under these parameters, the characters shared their pieces and the fashion industry was not immune to this.
The Chanel house designed the recreation of Priscilla’s wedding dress for the film, remember that Sofía Coppola has been a brand ambassador since 2019. Valentino was in charge of Elvis’ looks, especially his iconic pieces.
Memorable moments like the 1967 Las Vegas wedding with the high hair, eyeliner and tiara veil make an appearance in the film. The dress has alterations to the long sleeve compared to the original.
Another moment that millions of people regard as one of the most special moments in the lives of Elvis and Priscilla is, of course, the birth of Lisa Marie, in 1968. Priscilla’s look with the long-sleeved dress is almost perfectly recreated. long jumper in bright tones by Spaeny and the blue turtleneck sweater by Elordi.
Definitely a lot of nods to one of the most memorable couples of the 20th century.
