It tells the story of humble fisherman João, who is swept away by the world after a tragedy. But when he discovers a penguin adrift in the ocean, drenched in oil from a spill, his first instinct is to come in handy. After naming the penguin DinDim, for the first time in years João begins to feel joy.

The story of a twist when the penguin disappears into the ocean and, despite adversity, travels 8 thousand kilometers each year to spend a season with his human friend and then travels the same distance back to return to his natural habitat.

“I was surprised that it was a true story. It seemed like a story about a penguin that was able to evoke so much love in a lonely fisherman that he had given his sword for the world. It was a beautiful and moving read. And I feel like we really need more moving, funny and human stories,” says Jean Reno.

For her part, Adriana Barraza plays María, a woman who has overcome hardships but remains fiercely loyal to her husband João, even though she is not sure that things between them can ever be repaired. “María’s life changed in an instant,” explains the actress.

“I survived what seemed insurmountable and continued to love my husband, but your marriage became a mere formality. Now, suddenly, there is the opportunity for a life that is much more than just getting through the day. You can see that you can have fun with John again. Personally known to many Marias, women who feel that they have only survived after loss, and in my heart, I would like to take them to this role, to say that even when everything seems lost, a person can love the truth again. la vida”, explains the Mexican actress.

Filmed in Brazil and Argentina, the film Mi amigo el pinguino features dark photography by Oscar winner Anthony Dod Mantle (Slumdog Millionaire).
