For Balmain’s Resort 2023 collection, creative director Olivier Rousteing pays homage to Egyptian imagination with sumptuous silhouettes.

Drawing inspiration from the maximalism and minimalism of Pharaonic times, complete with deep blue beetle-like armor, reptilian details and regal plumage.

The blue and gold pieces under which Rousteing, who was adopted, actually grew up, were discovered not long ago by the designer. “My parents always thought I was Egyptian,” he told the fashion press. “So it was always part of my DNA, in a sense.” Rouesting honored that connection in a very conceptual way.

The designer said that his clients feel more and more attracted to own a unique piece, and practically artistic. The main pieces are conceptual, they mix textures, where metallized prevails in the best Egyptian style.
