The issue of mental health is becoming more and more important. Being able to detect depression early and give adequate treatment is part of the emotional conflict that people experience in order to know how to ask for help. According to studies, every 40 seconds a person in the world commits suicide, one in five are adolescents, and it is precisely these figures that force us to rethink the dialogue and observation towards a silent disease.
Pedro, the main character of the play, undergoes a radical change when his ex-wife visits him with their teenage son Nicolás, a disturbed and depressed young man, who longs to live with his father. A father’s struggle to understand what is happening to his son and his unexplained condition sharpen his relationship in a dangerous direction. The work spills emotions as it becomes more intimate within a dysfunctional family, marking an outcome in the memories of those who attend this piece cataloged as a “turbulence of emotions”.
“The Son” will open the season in Peru at the De Lucía theater almost at the same time as the world premiere in theaters of the film adaptation starring Hugh Jackman and Laura Dern, a film that received a standing ovation at the recent Venice Film Festival where the attendees applauded the actors and the director for 10 minutes.
